Around Australia

Adelaide, 4-6 June 2018

On our first day in Adelaide, we took a full day tour of the McLaren Vale wine region. The map shows the main places we visited (click the thumbnail for a larger version).
We stopped first at John Yeates Lookout, south of Willunga township, from where we had views over the whole McLaren Vale region and out to the sea. *
  *
Our first wine tasting was at Fox Creek Winery. †

Then to Wirra Wirra Vineyards, where we had another tasting and an excellent lunch of shared plates. †

More grape vines at Leconfield Wines. †
The tour deviated from its usual route to call at d'Arenberg wines to view the extraordinary Cube. *
  *
Back in Adelaide, Lynn was attracted by these escape stairs on a building near our hotel. *
And by this strange, crumpled building. *
The next day, we set out on the reason for our visit to Adelaide, the exhibition Colours of Impressionism: Masterpieces from the Musée d'Orsay at the Art Gallery of SA. This is La Niege (Snow) by Charles-François Daubigny. †
Vue des toits (Effet de niege) (Rooftops in the snow) by Gustave Caillebotte. †
  Argenteuil by Claude Monet. †
Pont de chemin de fer à Chatou (Railway bridge at Chatou) by Auguste Renoir. †
Le château des papes (Palace of the popes) [Avignon] by Paul Signac. †
Les Andelys (The riverbank) by Paul Signac. †
Gabrielle à la rose (Gabrielle with a rose) by Auguste Renoir. †
Le bassin aux nymphéas, harmonie rose (Water lily pond, pink harmonies) by Claude Monet. †
La cathédral de Rouen. Le portail et la tour Saint-Romain, plein soleil (Rouen Cathedral. The portal and Saint-Romain tower, full sunlight) by Claude Monet. †
Having a look around some of the Gallery's permanent collection, we found two versions of Virgin and child. This is by William Adolphe Bouguereau. †
And this is by Guiliano Bugiardini. †
Having some time to kill in the afternoon, we took the tram to Glenelg and looked at the Town Hall ... †
  and the pier. †
